On launching POWcityblog we decided to step lightly around mannequins. Concerned for originality we did not want to rely on creepy shots of wig heads and mannequins like some snot-sucking art student. After all mes amis this is psychogeography not some alternative high school's day trip. Nonetheless, mannequins are earning a place in our heart when it comes to contextualizing space.The clutch displayed at a naughty shop along Queen Street East for example: pale, zombie-esque bad girls hanging around in their trashiest skivvies, the ones outside bungee-corded to aluminium step ladders. All a bit like a Canadianized Amsterdam on horse tranquilizers. The scandale with these soon-to-be-everywhere shops is not so much what is displayed in the windows or what people do with such items when they get home as much as the sky high ripoff prices charged therein for a few scraps of nylon mesh and PVC.
