(56) Hollywood on the Queensway*

Our totally awesome career often finds us at large in Etobicoke, one of several edge cities composing the Greater Toronto Area. If the GTA were a brain Etobicoke would correspond to the limbic system! We would not be who we are without it but ultimately it must be suppressed in the name of civilization. Etobicoke contains a mixture of older suburbs and newer developments and is reasonably served by public transit. Southern portions of Etobicoke were once quite heavily industrialized and still suggest possibilities to the casual explorer, particularly along the shore of Lake Ontario. Northern stretches of the area form a post-1970s suburban wasteland barely survivable outside of a motor vehicle. Mid-Etobicoke prospered with lighter industries during the boom years of Canada's branch plant economy and is still busy with warehouses and small plants and Hollywood on the Queensway. Somebody give us a lobotomy, no, let's go to Etobicoke instead.

*Hollywood on the Queensway is the actual name of a drinking establishment. Cheers!

editor's note: we feel Marilyn Monroe has made the full evolution from nostalgic 80s icon to historic object in the nick of time
